Welcome to the Agglomeration
Solitude
I am stranded on an island in the ocean of nowhere
with roaring currents and swirling rapids
saturating me with their icy cold touch as they
break on the jagged rocks near the shore beneath me.
I gaze onto the horizon from my high vantage
and see the darkness of night enveloping the
light of day. In the fallout, in the aftermath,
the rays of hope have deserted me. I am alone.
So this is what the world is like when devoid of
human life. The tranquility of silence brings
a new sense of safety over this wasteland.
This is where I belong. My sanctuary. My home.
Isn't it ironic? That I should find solace in a place
where others would consider hell? A living death?
But I no longer remember what human company
ever meant to me. I have forgotten what I have lost.
When time is through with me, I shall rejoin this place
where I have sought refuge. Who would have thought
that a shipwreck would have led to such a
happy ending, to the finding of my natural asylum.
I can only hope that my companions have been as lucky
as I have been. I pray that they too have found a place
where they can truly belong. And if not, then I beg that
the reaper felt mercy and took them swiftly and painlessly.
For there is nothing worse in this world than to be surrounded
By people you know and care about, yet to feel isolated.
True loneliness has no cure that humans can find.
The remedy lies in nature, as I have now discovered.
I thank the starless sky for this therapeutic breeze,
for this sanative peace, this final closure.
But then, in one instant a beam of light fractures my
utopia as I hear voices and a propeller above me.
They have found me. But they will not take me.
Not alive. I take one final glance at my approaching
captors. Then I jump into the accepting waters and
I let them liberate me from the chains of life.
I hope this was slightly more fulfilling than my haiku, which may we agree was a complete and utter embarrassment, not to mention a complete failure.
Thank you all those who continue to read my poetry. May you be inspired.
Till next time, may you agglomerate all your unpremeditated contemplations.
